Secure FTP Server Upgrade or Update Instructions

Applicability

The instructions below apply to the following server products.  If your product is not listed, please visit the support page for your particular product.

Secure FTP Server 3

Upgrade or Update Instructions
Important Pre-installation Notes:
  • Do not use your production registration serial number for testing purposes.  If you elect to test or verify an update prior to introduction into your production environment, contact us for a trial registration serial number to use for testing.
  • If you are updating your production system, contact us prior to starting the upgrade process so that we can make your registration serial number(s) available for use.   To insure a successful update, please provide all related registration serial numbers to the customer service team.
  • If you are currently using Secure FTP Server version 1, then to preserve your settings you must upgrade to version 2 before you can upgrade to version 3.
  • If you are upgrading to the next major version number then the upgrade or update process does not reset or otherwise affect your server configuration or user settings.

Follow these steps to upgrade or update Secure FTP Server:

  1. Download the most recent release of Secure FTP Server from the Secure FTP Server Support Center and save it to a convenient location.
  2. Document the server Administrator user name and password for the existing FTP server.
  3. Stop the GlobalSCAPE Secure FTP Server service using the Server Administrator or as follows:

    • In Control Panel, open Administrative Tools then double-click Services.
    • Select GlobalSCAPE Secure FTP Server and then click Stop Service.
  4. Close the Secure FTP Server Administrator interface.
  5. As a precaution, back up the existing Secure FTP Server installation folder. The default installation path is: C:\Program Files\GlobalSCAPE\Secure FTP Server\.
  6. Start the Setup file downloaded in Step 1 above.  Choose Repair, click Next and then follow the onscreen instructions.
  7. When the upgrade or update is finished, start the GlobalSCAPE Secure FTP Server service using the Server Administrator or as follows:

    • In Control Panel, open Administrative Tools then double-click Services.
    • Select GlobalSCAPE Secure FTP Server and then click Start Service.
